The second proof that shows the Bible is the Divinely inspired Word of God, and is in a class of its own above all religious writings, is the fascinating subject of 'Prophecy'. (Read the first proof, 'Bible Numerics', before you read this one). All other faiths have wisely voided their writings of all prophetic utterances. Because no man knows the future, they could never accurately predict it. If the authors of other religious writings had tried to validate their works by adding prophetic utterances, and they did not come to pass, everyone would then know that they were frauds. Therefore they wisely omitted Prophecies from their writings.
However, an omniscient God knows tomorrow as if it was yesterday, and can accurately predict the future. The Bible is filled with hundreds of amazing Prophecies, that have impossible odds of all coming to pass.
Jesus Christ fulfilled every Old Testament Prophecy of the first coming of the Messiah, to vicariously die for sinful humanity. His virgin birth, crucifixion, death, burial, resurrection and ascension fulfill many Old Testament Prophecies, made hundreds of years before His coming.
Let's look at just a few Prophecies that relate to one specific subject - Jesus Christ. As you read each prophecy, realistically think about it and ask yourself, "What is the chance of this Prophecy being fulfilled?" Actually give it some odds (eg. 1:1000), and write that down. After doing this for all the listed prophecies, multiply all your odds, and see what an astronomical figure you come up with. You'll prove for yourself that these scriptures must have been Divinely inspired by Almighty God.
w1 His being born of a virgin, Isa 7:14 ... fulfilled in Mat 1:22-23. (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many virgins have given birth lately? - maybe 1:5,000,000,000 - hardly likely, but we have to give it some reasonable odds". Ask yourself an intelligent question similar to this for all these Prophecies).
w2 His being born in Bethlehem of Judea, Micah 5:2 ... fulfilled in Mat 2:1 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "What is the likelihood of predicting the right town out of the ±50 towns in the region at that time?" - 1:50).
w3 His being rejected by Jewish rulers, Psa 118:32 ... fulfilled in Mat 21:42 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "What is the likelihood of the Biblical students of the day rejecting their long awaited for Messiah? - maybe 1:20").
w4 His being betrayed by a friend, Psa 41:9 ... fulfilled in John 13:18,21 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "What percentage of friends betray their closest for money? - maybe 1:100").
w5 His being sold for 30 pieces of silver, Zech 11:12 ... fulfilled in Mat 26:15 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "What is the likelihood of predicting the exact amount to the penny that would be paid to His betrayer? - maybe 1:200. If the Jewish rulers wanted to discredit Him as Messiah, all they had to do was pay His betrayer any other amount").
w6 The intensity of His sufferings, Psa 22:14-15 ... fulfilled in Luke 22:42,44 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many criminals, whose judges know they're innocent, get the full treatment of mocking, whipping, being spat on, having your beard plucked, crowned with long sharp spiky thorns, etc. - over and above the death penalty? - maybe 1:1,000").
w7 His being smitten on the cheek, Micah 5:1 ... fulfilled in Mat 27:30 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many loving, silent and innocent convicted criminals get their face smashed beyond recognition (Isa 52:14)? - maybe 1:1,000").
w8 His being spit on and scourged, Isa 50:6 ... fulfilled in Mark 14:65 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many loving, silent and innocent convicted criminals get spat on and whipped with exactly 39 lashes? - maybe 1:2,000" If He was whipped with 38 or 40 lashes He could not have been the Messiah).
w9 His hands and feet being nailed to the cross, Psa 22:16 ... fulfilled in John 19:18 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "Why was He nailed to His cross when all others condemned by crucifixion were tied to their cross to extend their suffering over a few days? - maybe 1:500").
w10 Gall and vinegar being given Him to drink, Psa 69:21 ... fulfilled in Mat 27:34 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "Why would they give Him drink when a part of the purpose of this cruel death was to induce the agony of intense thirst? - maybe 1:500").
w11 His garments being parted, and lots cast for His vesture, Psa 22:18 ... fulfilled in Mat 27:35 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many executioners do you know who gamble good hard earned money for the clothes of an executed convict? - maybe 1:3,000").
w12 That not one bone of His should be broken, Psa 34:20 ... fulfilled in John 19:33,36 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "What is the likelihood of someone going through such an intense beating, whipping and being nailed to a cross with long large rusty spikes - and still not having any of His bones broken? - maybe 1:20").
w13 His being pierced, Zech 12:10 ... fulfilled in John 19:34,37 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many Roman soldiers thrust their spear into the sides of crucified criminals - maybe 1:1,000").
w14 His being buried with the rich, Isa 53:9 ... fulfilled in Mat 27:57-60 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many rich people do you know who've recently given up their family grave for a condemned criminal? - maybe 1:100,000").
w15 His resurrection, Psa 16:10 ... fulfilled in Luke 24:6,31,34 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many dead people have come back to life 3 days later and appeared over a period of 40 days to many people - more than 500 at one time - with many convincing proofs consisting of lengthy conversations, teachings, having meals with them, etc.? - maybe 1:100,000,000").
w16 His ascension, Psa 68:18 ... fulfilled in Luke 24:51 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many people do you know who've ascended bodily into Heaven? - maybe 1:2,000,000,000 - in the entire 6000 year history of the Bible there have only been 2 others").
w17 His sitting on the right hand of God, Psa 110:1 ... fulfilled in Heb 1:3 (To give this scripture the correct odds, ask yourself, "How many people do you know who'll ever be enthroned to rule the universe from God's right hand? - maybe 1:5,000,000,000 ").
Now multiplying out all these ratio's you get a 1 in 3 to the power of 71 chance of all these prophecies coming to pass, i.e. 300,000,000 billion, billion, billion, billion, billion, billion, billion (or 7 billions).
To illustrate the difference between a million and a billion?
If someone said I'll give you a $1M on one condition - you have to personally spend $100,000 a day and you're not allowed to get 1 penny interest or else you don't get the money. How long would it take to spend your million? Just 10 quick days.
Now to spend a billion under the same circumstances would take 27,4 years - imagine the burden of spending $100,000 everyday for over 27 years of your life - you'd surely be ready to gag on shopping and buying after 27 years of dragging yourself through malls 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year - i.e. 10,000 consecutive shopping days.
This by no means is an exhaustive list of the Prophecies that Jesus Christ fulfilled.
Note: Bible Numerics proves that all these New Testament Scriptures, fulfilling Prophecy, actually happened - being attested to by God Himself, who cannot lie (Heb 6:18).
Remember that God's Word is filled with incredible Prophecies like this, on scores of different subjects, that have all come to pass, proving the authenticity of the The Holy Bible.
All other religious writings, however moral or noble they may be, are still just the writings of a mere man, without Divine inspiration. They represent man's philosophy, man's ideas of what we should do to gain an entrance into Heaven. Those who live by the moral code of other religious writings, might ease their conscience, but have they pleased God? We need to understand that God created the Heavens and the earth, and therefore He's entitled to make the rules of who gains an entrance into His Kingdom, or who goes to Hell. You can't suddenly change to basketball rules in the middle of a football match. You'll get sent off the field if you persist. Who does man think he is, to conveniently write his own book of rules, in a weak (and deceptive) attempt to show others the way to Heaven. God laughs at them and their eternal punishment is just.
There are some who will say, "All religions worship the same God, so why all the fuss!" God's inspired Word does not at all agree with such a grossly erroneous statement. The truth is plainly stated in three separate chapters in the first epistle of John.
1 John 2:22-23 (NAS) Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is THE Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.
23 (TLB) For a person who doesn't believe in Christ, God's Son, CAN'T HAVE GOD THE FATHER EITHER. But he who has Christ, God's Son, has God the Father also.
1 John 4:14-15 (NRS) And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent His Son as the Savior of the world.
(How can a person reject God's ONLY Son, who paid the supreme price for our salvation, and still expect favor with God).
15 God abides (only) in those who confess that Jesus is THE Son of God, and they abide in God.
1 John 5:11-12 (NAS) And the witness is this, that God has given us ETERNAL LIFE, and this LIFE is IN HIS SON.
12 He who HAS THE SON HAS THE LIFE; he who does NOT HAVE THE SON of God does NOT HAVE
Once again, Bible numerics proves these verses are authored by God - revealing HIS ONLY plan of salvation.
In the light of the above facts, the Bible must be a Book for all to seriously re-look at once again, regarding our eternal future. Will yours be in Heaven or Hell?
Note: Only after I entered into a personal relationship with the Author (Jesus Christ the Living Word - John 1:1-14), could I begin to properly understand the Bible's main message - receiving the free gift of 'Eternal Life' by faith in Jesus Christ alone.
